Message The bottom line for US importation is that the car has to match US impact & emissions for that same model that same model year in the US.

So if you want to import a JDM '93 then it has to match US 1993 standards.

Since we didn't have a '99 model here, it's next to impossible to do legally. The JDM cars never had PS airbags, even 1994+ so you can never meet that US standard. So that effectively puts the JDM 1994 - 99 Z32 out of the picture for importation.

Emissions wise you'd want a USDM ecu, on the TT you'd need to install US precats & main cats. You'd need to add US front & rear (5mph impact) bumper cores. You'd need US turn signals, and you'd have to have functional rear side marker lights (the JDM ones, at least before '99 are just "dummy"). You'd need to install US market head lights & fog lights for RHD road use. You'd need to show that the doors (side impact) and all glass was the same as the US model. Seat belts would also have to be the same as used in the US, for the 90-93 models that means the passive door mounted ones, but you could prob. get away w. pillar mounted ones by claiming the later standard.

Basically what you have to show is that the car you are trying to import meets the same crash test standards as it's US counterpart and all the lighting has to be marked w. a DOT stamp. That process is time consuming and cost prohibitive.
